Can someone explain the job of a porter? I may try to get a job as a porter at this Porsche dealer this summer. Is it a worthwhile job? Anyone with experience with that job have any advice?

Cleaning stuff, washing cars, moving cars. Basically do whatever they say, from what I've heard.

Also, DAT 50

Sounds simple enough. I don't mind doing stuff with cars all day, especially Porsches.

That's why I'd get a job like that right now if I didn't already have an internship lined up.

You're the first person here that I've talked to that knows what AF stands for.

I'm planning on internships next year, but I could use the extra cash for car things! I hope that working two jobs isn't hell. Luckily, my dad owns the first job, and the porter job is flexible; two flexible jobs sounds good! :)

Because you go fer this, and you go fer that. As long as you know what you're getting into, nothing wrong with gophering, good way to learn.

That is a very clever pun there. I agree, I might learn some neat things if I go for it.

It was old when my g'granddaddy was a youngster :)

I think it comes from some Biblical joke about Noah asking God 'what should I build the Ark out of?' God replied 'gopherwood', so Noah went for wood.

If you keep your eyes and ears open, use your brain and initiative, gophering's not just a good way to learn, it's a good way to make good connections for later. Just watch out for whatever's the local equivalent of being sent to ask someone for the long weight.

Mostly driving cars from service, thru the wash, and around front to the customer.
